Challenge
A large utility customer was facing inefficiencies in their supply chain, including the need for multiple regional depots, excess staffing and high levels of on-hand inventory, and rising overall supply chain costs, particularly in freight and logistics. KTI was approached as a trusted partner to assist the utility on a viable solution.
Approach
KTI utilized its experienced team to provide an integrated logistical solution. By becoming the primary supplier of polyethylene (PE) products, KTI streamlined the distribution process, which reduced the customer’s reliance on regional depots. KTI also helped the customer redeploy and reduce staff by improving operational efficiency. Additionally, inventory management strategies were implemented to reduce excess stock, and supply chain processes were optimized to minimize freight and logistical costs.
Results
By partnering with KTI, the utility customer successfully reduced the number of regional depots, lowering facility and maintenance costs. The company was able to reduce and redeploy staff more effectively, improving resource allocation. On-hand inventory levels were decreased, freeing up capital and reducing storage needs. Overall supply chain costs, including freight expenses, were significantly reduced, by having KTI ship directly to contractor locations and construction sites.
